Hi Students,
There has been some confusion on Assignment #5 Question #1 in solving the truss. Many students have noted that the forces they calculate do not agree with the forces given in members 10-19. This is due to the definition of node 7 causing members 9 and 14 to not be parallel, while in the solution they were assumed to be.
Answers will be considered correct if:
a) you assumed elements 9 and 14 followed the same angle and got forces that agree with what was provided for nodes 10-19
b) you calculated the entire truss based on the node coordinates provided and found some minor disagreement with the forces provided.
To allow you time to rework the assignment if you chose and to clear up confusion, the assignment deadline has been extended to Friday, February 14th.
